Valley of Death

Fear. It's a strange thing. It's the feeling you get when you're imagining everything you don't want to happen. Those things that we imagine differ between people, but it's always initially the same feeling. Facing the fear? That's what us 'Facers do. And that's exactly what we are about to do again. Now imagine a haunted house at a theme park. You've never been inside before, but when you hang about the exit, you see people walk out slowly; their eyes glazed over, and their faces pale as cold beads of sweat collect on their forehead. You wouldn't want to go in there, would you?

That's exactly the kind of house the GhostFacers are tackling next. Myths and legends have been building up for a long time about a certain house in a valley that Harry and I have investigated briefly at an earlier date. We were slightly unprepared at the time (Remember: this is before the 'Facers or even the embryonic stage, the Hell Hounds. We weren't properly equipped for an encounter). The stories have been picking up again, all of them being from boys and girls of high school age who have entered the house on either some kind of dare, or a hunt for thrills. They all knew exactly who to come to: the GhostFacers. I have to admire that kind of intelligence, but that's just a sidebar. The 'Facers now had to figure out who the last owner of the house was - once we knew that, we'd be able to go in there with our video cameras blazing, and rock salt in tow.

Seeing as how the topic of the valley house is taboo for anyone who actually knows about it, it was time for us to hit the library. There was only the three of us, though - Harry, Maggie and myself, seeing as how Spruce had to work. Plus he was upset about the fact that Santa wasn't Jewish, or something along those lines. We started with the fastest research solution and put a couple phrases into Google in hopes to uncover some history on the house. It didn't get us all the way, but we did figure out that the last owner of the house had the surname of Daniels.

Assuming it's safe to skip all the grueling details of the intense studying we did, I finally uncovered the full name of the last owner of the valley house. Nathan Daniels, born in 1887, and died of a supposed heart attack in 1945. Our next step is to pack up our gear and get into that valley house. I'm not going to lie... that house is one of the biggest fears from me and Harry's past. It's going to be tough facing it again, but this is what we do. If our risks and skill can help the whole town of Appleton feel more at ease, and more secure - then it will be worth it. No matter what happens.

Well 'Facer fans; I can hear the curious little gears in your brains turning. What exactly did these stories of the Valley House include? How bad could it possibly be? Did anything happen to the people who have actually been in this house? I happen to have the answers for you: witchcraft and Ouija boards galore, pretty awful, and yes. The legends go back as far as the house does, Nathan Daniels was only the most recent owner of the house. It's far older than that. They say the creator of the house bound it with a lot of spells, asking for protection provided by evil spirits (protection from what? Nobody's quite sure). These kind of spells don't work without strings attached, of course. The myth says the owner of the house sold his own soul for protection, but it wasn't payment enough. Anybody else who inhabits the house has their soul damned to hell as well; no matter what they've done.

The teenagers attempting to explore the Daniels house found that nothing good came of it. One of them has testified to us that she was actually attacked by the spirit that haunted the house; her bloody nose, bruises and wide, afraid eyes backing up her testimony. It seems obvious to us that this was meant to be our next task, and we plan to tackle it with everything we've got.

'Face on!
